Hyperdocs - Earth Day on Google Docs

Teaching Earth Day Through a Hyperdoc

What is a Hyperdoc?

A Hyperdoc is an interactive lesson that includes links, pictures, activities, and more. It is a great replacement for traditional lessons and worksheets, because a Hyperdoc allows for more creativity and exploring in the classroom.

Why are they beneficial to students?

Students learn through exploration. Rather than telling them through lectures or readings, allowing them to take their learning into their own hands by exploring a Hyperdoc at their own pace benefits their learning much more.

What is an example of a Hyperdoc?

During my research, I found Google Doc with hyperlinks to multiple Hyperdocs for a variety of subjects. I chose one to explore under the Science sections entitled "Earth Day". It had sections for Explore, Engage, Apply, and Extend. In each section, there were multiple links to videos, games, or articles. The students should explore those links and then complete their tasks in the corresponding box. One of the links is a website that gives facts about energy to children, which is helping scaffold their learning about Earth Day. Another link for extending brings them to a website that they can explore freely and find one thing they learned from it about the Earth or Earth Day. This extension allows them to end their learning by making their own connections through exploration of a website with a variety of information.

Overall, I found this Hyperdoc to be very interesting, and the Google Doc of Hyperdocs to be helpful to me, as well as any teachers who may be reading? Interactive, exploration, discovery, learning is the best kind of learning!
