Hyper Docs
This week in class we talked about Hyper Docs. What is a hyper doc? A hyper doc is a format or your choice such as a google slide, doc, sheet, ed puzzle video and much more that connect technology with interactive learning. A hyper doc includes hyper links to information, activities for students to complete and assessments all while keeping students engaged. A hyper doc I want to discuss is a google slide or even a Pear Deck. A Pear Deck is an interactive slide show that teachers can use to make their lectures more interactive. They can put in questions and polls to their slide shows as well as consolidate/group students responses and provide teachers with an outline of what was primarily answered. Conducting a class using something like a Pear Deck or google slide can be very fun and engaging for a class. An example my professor gave was to send the student on a google maps scavenger hunt. There was a google slide that walked the students though how to use google maps and had little check points they needed to reach such as finding where their school was while also asking questions and teaching them how to use the tool. It was a simple way to make learning fun and it allows students to work at their own pace. In my Capstone class my professor uses Pear Deck and I am a big fan. It is interactive which keeps me engaged during classes, they have many needed resources linked to the deck and there are questions built into the lecture to help promote discussion and acts as an assessment for my professor. All in all, I do like the idea of a Hyper Doc but I think it primarily for older elementary and up. I do not think my kindergartener would be able to navigate a hyper doc easily, especially because many of them can't read and those who can, have very basic skills. A hyper doc that may work for littles is an edpuzzle that they can watch a listen for directions while completing a corresponding worksheet. That would be manageable and more at their level. I think Hyper docs is a great fun tool to use with students to keep learning fun and engaging but there is definitely more freedom when using it with older students.
